Day Three: What do Animals Need?

Just like humans, animals have needs! Children can learn about the needs of animals as they think about what they themselves need to live and be healthy!

    Step One: Engage Your Student

    • Below you will find two quick videos to engage your child in learning about the needs of an animal. In the first video, a baby bird falls out of a tree and explores the things that it needs. Play it through or pause it as you go to allow your child to guess what else the bird might need! Remind your child to think of the things that they themselves need to live.
    • The second video is a fun song that kids can learn and sing along to remember the needs of animals.

Step Two: Planning for a Pet

    • Let's pretend that we are getting a pet! Have your child pick an animal (preferably one that they don't already have) and create instructions about how to care for a pet. Below is a printable outline which can be used, but this can also be done using any type of blank paper available in your home.
    • Be on the look out for evidence of learning by observing if your child can talk about or demonstrate any of the things that living things need.
